Healing touches It seems he is gifted with supernatural powers: just by touching us he can tell what is wrong in our body. He draws hundreds of visitors a week to his place in Wang Nam Khieo district in Nakhon Ratchasima. His patients and admirers affectionately call him Mor Tor, but his real name is Kantitat Lertsuwarnwong and he has diagnosed more than 60,000 people in the five years. "I used to work for the United Nations. My responsibility was to help check refugees before they were resettled in third countries," he said. His decade-long career at the UN provided him with a wealth of knowledge about various diseases and ailments, their treatment and prevention. After resigning from the UN he decided to spend the rest of his life amidst nature. He bought 80 rai of land in Wang Nam Khieo that's blessed with pleasant weather all year round. He and his family started planting trees and farming organic vegetables. He named his land Suan Suai Khun Tor or "the beautiful garden of Mr Tor". After living there for a while, he realised that one thing was missing. "Food, cloth, accommodation and medicine are our basic needs. We had the first three but not the cure," he said. Kantitat then set out for the fourth. He studied Thai medicine and learned the use of herbs. The big break came in 1995 when he received JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) scholarship to attend a workshop on alternative medicine in Vietnam, where he learned the O-Ring technique. It inspired him to help others. After that he studied medical journals published in the US and Switzerland to expand his knowledge. "I gave my first diagnosis in 2002. I began collecting vital statistics about my patients - information such as blood type, birth element(s), dietary habits and so forth to identify their personality. "Mor Tor knows my lower back is suspect because I tend to lean on my left leg," said Orathai, a 66-year-old housewife. She was surprised to learn how Mor Tor had found it out. He advised her to consume more vegetables - good for the heart - although some of them are not good for the blood. In diagonising his patients, he is guided by the earth's magnetic field. Using the tip of his right middle finger, he touches them to identify the direction of flow of the magnetic force and subsequently the ailment. "The worst are HIV or cancer cases. I tell them to see the doctor right away," he said. The service is free of charge. Every weekend there are long queues of visitors outside his house waiting to call on Mor Tor. They come from all corners of the country, even foreigners some times. His popularity has grown by word of mouth. "He's quite good. His advice gives me an idea how to properly take care of myself and kick bad habits, such as staying up beyond midnight or not having breakfast, because that is going to kill my brain cells," said Cres, a Filipina. His diagnosis is essentially a guideline on what to eat, what to do and what not, says Tipwan who Mor Tor diagonised with tumour of the uterus. He prescribed her herbal medicine and advised her to consult a doctor. Mor Tor accepts visitors everyday, except Monday. Advance booking is recommend. Suan Suai Khun Tor also provides healthy food, Thai message and accommodation. For more information and reservation, call 081-760-1311, 086-866-6098 |
