Pets on show at Rose Garden
This weekend is ideal for family outing as the Rose Garden in Nakhon Pathom is playing host to the 5th Grand Pet Show. Starting tomorrow, it runs until Sunday and will feature animals ranging from cats and dogs to chicken, goats, rabbits and aquarium fish.
His Majesty the King has consented to let three of Khun Thongdaeng's siblings exhibit their skills, as has Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn who will release an equal number of dogs from his stable at Sukhothai Palace to show off their talents tomorrow.
A seminar on dog behaviour and training is scheduled tomorrow during 1-4pm, while vet Prapas Phinyophit of the Livestock Department will give a talk on the subject of transporting pet dogs by air on Saturday from 1-2pm.
A workshop on grooming of dogs is slated Sunday during 1:30-3pm.
Coral, aquarium fish and 10 breeds of "Killy Fish" are on show and on Saturday the Marine Science Institute of Burapha University will give a presentation on maintenance of aquariums and coral from 10am-12pm, followed by lectures on water-borne diseases and how to raise the pla taphat fish from 1-3:30pm.
Meanwhile, the Cat Lovers Club of Thailand will kick off the show tomorrow with a discussion on Siamese cats, celebrity gossip and how to raise the cuddly creatures during 1-2pm.
Other activities include contests featuring cats in various breed categories. The club is also giving away cats to anybody ready to adopt the feline pets and give them a new home.
Ten species of chicken indigenous to Thailand and selected foreign breeds will be on show, while the section on goat will feature breeds valued for their milk, and how to package and preserve it.
The American Rabbit Breeders Association will also be present at the event. Apart from a contest involving rabbits, it will host a talk highlighting different breeds and their habits and how to look after the animals that need to be handled with care for they are known to be sensitive to touch.
Other highlights of the show include booths of the Zoological Park Organisation, Charoen Pokphand which will put up cutting-edge broiler machinery, and Mahidol University which will offer pets free medical check. For shoppers, there are food, souvenirs and OTOP stalls.
