Travel news - general travel issues in Thailand

Thailand is the only Asian country to be ranked among the top ten travel destinations globally, according to a survey titled "Country Brand Index" by FutureBrand and its sister company Weber Shandwick.
Thailand ranked eighth behind Italy, Australia, the United State, France, Maldives, Greece and Fiji.
Thailand also placed in the top 10 in several sub-categories including "Rising Star Country Brands", "Best Country Brands for Nightlife", "Best Country Brand for Beaches", "Most Improved Country Brands", "Best Country Brand for Families" and "Best Country Brand for Conventions".
"The survey regards each country as a brand as it can define experiences. Some of the world's most powerful and recognisable brands should be countries," said Rene A. Mack, president of Weber Shandwick's global travel practice.
The index is based on analysis of statistics from trade organisations, government agencies, travel industry organisations, experts, travel editors and analysts.
The study also ranked China as the most improved country, while the US was "best" for business travel; Italy for art, culture and history; Australia for outdoors; and Bahamas for its beaches.
The survey's aim is to promote dialogue, raise questions and encourage countries to look at themselves in a whole new way.
